Kuilei Place Ground Blessing: Building a Future for Local Families

With aloha and a shared commitment to the future, the Kuilei Place ground blessing brought together community leaders, project partners, and friends on April 9 to celebrate what’s ahead. Held at the future site of more than 1,000 thoughtfully designed residences in Mōʻiliʻili, the ceremony marked a major milestone in the journey of Kuilei Place—one centered on place, progress, and the promise of home for kama‘āina families.

Led by Kahu Kenneth Makuakāne, the blessing set the foundation for a future rooted in connection and care. We were honored to be joined by Governor Josh Green, Mayor Rick Blangiardi, and City Council Chair Tommy Waters, who shared their support for a more inclusive, sustainable future through projects like Kuilei Place.

“Developments like Kuilei Place prove that we can build for the future while keeping affordability and sustainability at the forefront,” said Governor Josh Green. “Housing is healthcare—when families have a safe, stable place to live, they experience better health outcomes and greater financial security. This project not only provides homeownership opportunities but also incorporates cutting-edge, energy-efficient design that will serve Hawai‘i’s residents for generations.”

Designed for Kama‘āina, Built for the Future

With construction now officially underway and over 85% of homes already sold, Kuilei Place is quickly taking shape as one of Honolulu’s most significant new residential communities. Designed with kama‘āina in mind, the project includes a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes and an incredible lineup of resort-style amenities—from pools and fitness centers to private dining suites, barbecue cabanas, dog parks, and on-site dining concepts from Aoki Group.

“Kuilei Place challenges us to imagine what’s possible when we put local families at the center of design,” said Alana Kobayashi Pakkala, CEO of Kobayashi Group. “This community is a bold step forward—redefining what home can look like in Honolulu and setting a new standard for the neighborhoods we’ll build tomorrow.”

A Commitment to Sustainability

Sustainability is at the heart of Kuilei Place. With Hawai‘i’s first on-site residential greywater reuse system, centralized solar hot water, and EV-focused transportation options, it’s designed to support a more resilient future while offering the comforts of modern island living. These sustainable design features not only conserve resources but also reduce utility costs, offering long-term savings for homeowners.

“Kuilei Place represents exactly the kind of forward-thinking development Honolulu needs—one that prioritizes local families, embraces sustainability, and strengthens our communities,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. “With its innovative approach to homeownership and commitment to smart growth, this project is setting a new standard for how we create housing solutions that truly serve our residents—especially for our nurses, teachers, first
responders, and others who keep Honolulu running.”
